  • It is part of American culture to judge a person's intelligence on how articulate they are and their language usage.
  • Oh mostly It's fun. Or maybe it is irritating to see the language mangled. Maybe the spellig pumnctuatin and grammatical errors leave you with a questin that is complketely garbled ess nand you can't twll what the guy weas trying to say at al and you just wish he's rad it evn one befor posting
  • All you have to judge a person on AB and therefore how intelligent the source of the answer is, is the way they present themselves with their grammar and spelling.
  • sometimes people can be needlessly judgmental. and yes, i think some people think they are the best thing since sliced bread. i have known many brilliant people who do not speak english as their first language, and have seen english speaking people treat them rudely and talk down to them as if they are mentally challenged. how insulting. its inhumane really. i think its funny that many of these same people who make fun of the foreigners with broken english. dont even speak another language. ive also known many very intelligent people who arent great with grammar & spelling but could blow you away with their breadth of knowledge and skills in other subjects. it takes every kind of people to make the world go round... i will just finish by saying i think the spelling and grammar lessons are overbearing & pedantic. ive seen some cases where people simply correct the spelling or grammar errors and attack or make fun of the questioner without answering the question. people need to learn to be more compassionate and tolerant. my two cents.
  • I haven't really noticed this, but it sounds nit picky and petty. Some people are a little too tightly wound and or they are very sensitive to the issue and it's like fingernails on a chalkboard for them. Pet peeve, maybe?
  • The Internet is about communication and communication is about language. The precision of your language is one of the ways in which you achieve your communication goal. You own a business or two - if you gave a quote to someone and you wrote down $20Q00, do you think that the prospective customer would know what you were saying? Do you think they would trust your ability or would they question whether you even knew what you were doing if you couldn't even get a small thing right? It's not as if you don't get a second chance to read your question or answer before you send it. And the computers have this wonderful feature called 'spell-check' built right into them. Use it.
