  • I suppose for the same reason they don't say Jehovah/Yahweh when they baptize. The baptism references the role of the aspects of the Christian Deity, not the actual names.
  • They don't believe the name Jesus is the name that Matt.28:19 is speaking of therefore they only use titles in place of the name.
  • In actuality, (being a Baptist) it is tradition, and nothing more- at least in the churches I have attended. We use the quotation from Matthew 28:19, but it would be just as acceptable to say, "In the name of Jesus."
  • I know of Baptists who do say Jesus.. I think one name of a religion gets a bad representation from others using the same religion name and do things or believe things differently from each other. I am not fond of the seperation of religion names.
