This will probably sound farfetched to some people, but I swear this is true. Back in 2003, I went on an archeological expedition with some colleagues of mine. We traveled to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, in the Bermuda Triangle, where we had picked up some weird satellite thermal scans. It turned out to be a dead coral reef that was sort of a squat pyramid shape. Exploring deeper, we found some massive rocks. At first we thought it was just a rock formation of some sort caused by the movement of the tectonic plates. Then we realized the “rock formation” had straight edges and were, more or less, flat. We steered our submersible around the coral reef and found five such “formations” meaning it was a pentagonal pyramid. There were many theories around what we had found, but the most common one was that we had found part of Atlantis. The coral reef looked like it had been draped like a blanket over the “rock formation” and did not look like it had formed itself. Coral can’t grow were there is no sunlight for photosynthesis. Obviously we were concerned and somewhat scared. We hope to travel back to the “ruins” in 2010 if we have enough money to fund the trip and we have almost enough and we have three more years so we are hopeful. (Yes, the Bermuda Triangle is an area where communication equipment fails sometimes and navigation equipment gets screwy. Some of our equipment started to fail but we decided to go ahead with the expedition anyway.)

Alot of people think there was, and many think they DISCOVERED Atlantis. But it's still questionable. Over the years, Atlantis has variously been “discovered” off the coasts of England, Spain, Crete, China, India, and Bimini, the Straits of Gibraltar, and between the borders of Bolivia and Peru. In the 1930's Nazi Heinrich Himmler even organized an expedition to Tibet to locate supposed 'white Atlanteans' haha!

No, I do not think that Atlantis as described by Plato was real, but I thinl that the story has some basis in fact. I suspect that the story is made up , but based very loosely on historal reality. I think that the main inspiration for Atlantis was ancient voyages to the Americas in the first millenium BC. Recently,cocaine has been found in some ancient Egyptian mummies dating from 1300BC. Back then, the only place to get cocaine was South America. Perhaps there was a very limited trans-atlantic drug trade in ancient times. For this reason, I suggest, that "Atlantis" is the garbled account of an ancient native American civilisation in central America.
