Kentucky considers itself part of the South. Perhaps they may have sided with the Confederates in the war between the states.

because there aren't any catchy popular songs about kentucky...no one cares about kentucky unless you live in kentucky and then you probably don't care if the song doesn't go with the commercial...you got chicken and skynard..the only thing missing is a case of pabst blue ribbon and an inflatable sheep.

Kentucky is southern.. the song reminds people of the south.. I guess it's as simple as that.

because stephen foster's "my old kentucky home" has no catchy electric guitar riff in it. "sweet home alabama" also has emotional associations for a generation and a half that was raised on anthemic rock songs. yee haw! fried chicken!
