yes -- Americans in small towns who have been exposed to Indian and/or Chinese culture have as much opportunity to know about those cultures as anyone else. The size of the place from which they come has little to do with knowing about other cultures.

nfortunately no. My girlfriend is korean and has lived in the us 17 years, I speak fluent koreana nd have lived there as well so I know the culture. Day after day even in a larger city like Baltimore where I live people still call her oriental, chinese, mexican etc. People still ask her is she comfortable wearing jeans and stuff instead of kimonos! Sadly there's a lot of american people who develop their concepts of other cultures and peoples based off of movies and stuff they see on tv.

Coming from a small town, yes, I know quite a few. Many of them are young adults to middle aged adults. If they aren't very well-traveled they have interest in other cultures, so Indian or Chinese culture isn't the only thing they are interested in. Most of the teenagers and children I know are more itnerested in Chinese culture though.
