  • Your question is an interesting one in that it assumes that one is in need of salvation. Not all religions believe that this is necessary. In general, only those who believe in the "Fall of Man" and hereditary sin require salvation. If you do not believe that you are in a "Fallen" state, you do not require salvation. In other words, you have to believe in something mysterious and unexplainable to believe you are in need of salvation. Trinity is an interesting concept. Three is a powerful number in the mysteries, and many trinities have existed. Mother-Father-Son is common (Isis, Osiris, Horus, for example), as is Maiden-Mother-Crone (as differing aspects of the same Goddess). In Hinduism, the masculine God form is seeing as Creator-Preserver-Destroyer (Brahma-Vishnu-Shiva). In Christianity, the concept of Father-Son-Holy Spirit as aspects of the same God is common.
  • Yes. If you want to be saved, you have to believe in the mystery of Holy Trinity. How is possible that God is one and three? This is a divine MYSTERY, unexplainable. Just have faith, don’t ask, no questions and no doubt. Follow the Church Fathers (like me), they knew it and Holy Trinity is their inheritance. We have to believe it. Remember, the Bible is not the highest authority, but the Church Creeds. Don’t look in the Bible for seeking the Trinity. Maybe some Protestants are not agreeing with me. But I don’t care; I am a true Christian a Catholic.
  • The Encyclopedia Americana notes that the doctrine of the Trinity is considered to be “beyond the grasp of human reason.” Many who accept the Trinity view it that same way. Monsignor Eugene Clark says: “God is one, and God is three. Since there is nothing like this in creation, we cannot understand it, but only accept it.” Cardinal John O’Connor states: “We know that it is a very profound mystery, which we don’t begin to understand.” And Pope John Paul II speaks of “the inscrutable mystery of God the Trinity.” Thus, A Dictionary of Religious Knowledge says: “Precisely what that doctrine is, or rather precisely how it is to be explained, Trinitarians are not agreed among themselves.” A PROTESTANT publication states: “The word Trinity is not found in the Bible . . . It did not find a place formally in the theology of the church till the 4th century.” (The Illustrated Bible Dictionary) And a Catholic authority says that the Trinity “is not . . . directly and immediately [the] word of God.”—New Catholic Encyclopedia. So how can something that is not in the bible bring salvation if GOD did not speak of it from what i understand it is man's thinking and they can not offer anything for me or you.
  • If you have faith in Christ as your savior and redeemer you do not need to belive in the trinity to attain salvation. That having been said I'm very much convinced of the truth of the trinity.
  • I think the essential concepts of the existence of God and creation of the universe are unexplainable. If there is a Creator who designed and built the universe, I would contend that such a being is beyond explanation. Can you, even hypothetically, explain the existence of God? If God "created the heavens and the earth," can you explain how that was accomplished? I think the Bible is clear that one must believe God exists and submit to Him in some sense to gain salvation (traditional Christian position - this question is currently posted in the Christianity section). So, I believe the answer is yes, you do have to believe in some unexplainable things to get salvation. [as for the phrase "divine mystery" - I don't think everybody would understand those words to mean the same thing, so I don't personally use that phrase, so I decline to address that part of the question.]
  • The trinity cannot be explained because it is a man made understanding. Antigone Rising is right.. there have been many tri-une 'gods' that have existed throughout time. Rome had a habit of conquoring a country and taking its practices and 'christianising' them. Take Easter, aspects of Christmas.. all historical pagan celebrations with a Christian theme. (do some research). The trinity is no different. Remember that it wasn't until the council of Nicea in 325 AD that the trinity was ratified under the corrupt Augustine's direction. Monotheism was not represented at this council. The Bible states that God is ONE. (deut 6:4) 1 Timothy 3:16 states "Great is the mystery of Godliness.. God was manifest (made to be seen) in the flesh.." No trinity.. ONE GOD. His name is Jesus. Salvation must be reached through Jesus because He made the way, not as a third of a tri-une deity but as the same God who created the universe. God spilt blood for you and I. John 3 Jesus tells Nicodeumus that "... you must be born again to see the Kingdom of God".. how is one 'born again'? Good question. The Death, burial and resurrection of Christ. We must repent, be baptised into Jesus Name for hte remission of sins and be filled with the Holy Ghost. (Acts 2:38). There is NO other name given under heaven whereby we can be saved. Hey Antigone Rising.. I understand that you don't believe you are fallen and thus do not require salvation.. that is a solid conviction you have. My question to you is.. What if you are wrong? If you ask me that.. I can say.. well.. I've lived a good life and have been very blessed along the way.. what are the implications if you are wrong?
  • no, I believe that the Trinity is an amalgamation of other religious teachings that have been grafted into Christianity. It is relatively a new concept and idea, since even the most scholarly Christian agrees that the Apostles never taught it, and never concieved God as such.
