Move.

Sad thing is, you can't make them accept it. They are the only ones in charge of opening their minds and airing it out. But by staying true to yourself you can hope that their children will see how normal it is and influence the next generation.

Move to California. The weather is better too

Unfortunately, you cannot force the narrow-minded to change their views. The best you can do is live your life well and rise above their judgement. If they are actively harrassing you, go to the police or you may, indeed, have to move.

You can't eradicate people's ignorance. You can only be the example of what you want for yourself and the world. And if all else fails, like everyone said here: MOVE. My Korean friend left Birmingham about 8 years ago.. she was tired of having the exterior of her house painted with very inappropriate graffiti.

Oh, bruther! I hope you realize that you're playing with both your life and his. The KKK is very much alive, well and actively recruiting in Alabama. All it takes is for one of those nuts to get a wind of it - or your neighbors to snitch on you - and the least of your problems will be not having their acceptance

I hate to say it... but you're screwed. You're in a relationship that is including two socially "unacceptable" issues within it. You will not be able to make people accept you, perhaps only tolerate you. The key is to ignore them. Be happy in your relationship and who you are. Don't let any one else make you feel bad about it. They'll never understand because they don't want to.
