A: Against their religion B: Perception C: Don't believe in this "truth" D: Connotes evil (thanks, Belle) E: Is a social poison Edit: E: Is socially alienated.
-
I don't think is so much of hate but more of rejection, you have to admit that this culture has portrayed satan in such a way that there is little chance for acceptance. You have to make peace with the idea that satanism is going to be rejected and execrated from main society for years to come.

It has the word Satan in it.

There's a kind of people called contrarians, who always buy when everyone else is selling and sell when everyone is buying, always stand up for the underdog and see the other side. They think that, since Satan is unpopular, he deserves a hearing. What they don't realize is that if everyone is selling, the stock doesn't have a negative value; it still has a positive value. And that there is some good in almost everybody. But Satan is utterly and absolutely negative, vile, evil, wicked, hateful, destructive, shameful and deserving of nothing but everlasting torture in hell because all that he does is malicious and destructive. Temporarily, of course, Satan is as capable of making a strategic retreat as any human general; and for a short while he may present himself as promoting self-realization. But the end of it is personal self-destruction which will usually drag many others down with it.

From the name Satanism it sounds like people who worship Satan. Take away the i-s-m and you have Satan. I would say that fact puts off alot of people.

Satan, as presented in standard Christian theology, is the essence of that which is to be hated. God is the essence of good, Satan is the essence of bad. In Christian terminology, Satanism is the worship of the essence of evil, and hence by its very definition is evil. Some people may have a different view of an entity that they call Satan, for which there might be a non-hateful form of worship. But this is a different entity from the one to which Christians refer by that name.

I think, like with most everything in life, people have certain opinions of things that have become ingrained in their very makeup. These are really difficult to overcome, because they are woven in with so many other things in our personality makeups. Even when presented with differences of opinions, viewpoints and even facts that run contrary to what we hold to be truthful, it's often difficult for most to grapple with and integrate. It's really just easier to continue with what we already believe in. This isn't the case for everybody, as your question seems to indicate, but could be said to be true, in some degree, in many of us. Look at it like this. Most believe Adolph Hitler was evil, right? This is because of the results of his actions. But, he was also a person. There has been much research in trying to understand how someone held such control over so many and what were possible reasons for his horrific policies and acts. It is now understood that towards the end of his reign, when he started using concentration camps and gas chambers and invading surrounding countries, he was suffering from late-stage syphilis, which causes dementia and paranoid delusions. He was also getting 3x daily injections of methamphetemine, which also adds to paranoia and delusions, along with eroding the brain's ability to cognate certain emotions like empathy, love, happiness. Does this make him seem less evil or offer enough explanation to rationalize away what he did? While we should be able to be open and accepting of people and ideas that seem foreign to us, it's another thing to actually put it into practice. For some things, it's a defense mechanism. And sometimes, it's a pretty useful one. Not always. But I think the important thing to understand out of all of this, is that everyone is different and not everyone processes things the same way. Sometimes, we have to just accept that "you can't please all the people all the time."

becuase your pushing your truth on someone else. it dosn't matter what they think it dosn't hurt you. what starts wars is people not liking how other people believe and live. so they try to make them believe the things they do and live the way they do
-
people are just so ignorent and cant realize what a true satanist is. those who actually believe in him and his good ways. though people think him as not being good he is, well to his children of course. and i a though devotte i will go to him when he wishes me to and i will be in paradise. people hate it because of how they were brought up. they can really never think outside the box and realize they should just deal with the fact that something you dont see approprite doesnt mean you have to hate it.
-
I think it has nothing to do with the practices and everything to do with the name. According to the scripture (Christian and otherwise)Satan is the villan of all villans who is responsible for the world being the way it is. I don't think you should be surprised by the reactions. The founder of Satanism knew exactly what he was doing when he named the following Satanism, he was a pretty smart guy.

For the same reason that when presented with the truth of Christianity, people still choose to hate it.
-
Because "Christians" believe that anything that has to do with satan is horrible. I mean for instance i seen a sign today outside of a church which read "Pity the athiest for they thanks but no one to thank" I dont know why you would Pity an athiest..i mean its THERE choice of what they want to believe why try to pity them or change the way they think. I believe that Catholicism is the antichrist, but do i pity them? no...I myself have no religion but i do believe in god. I have went to just about every religion there is and every single one of them changes something in the bible to make it there religion. Isnt the bible the most sacred text? why change it then... Thats why i dont understand how people hate satanists, They probably hate your religion to...every religion believes they are right and everyone else is wrong and they put down any one against them, or they try to change them to believe what they believe. I just wont agree to all that crap i believe what i want to believe...not what THEY want me to believe

Those who wallow in mediocrity and blind conformity fear that which threatens to disrupt or challenge their beliefs.
-
It is the name, deliberately chosen to provoke that antagonistic reaction and get people's attention.
-
Cause theyy have been brainwashed and follow God like sheep.

People make their own "truth", and that "truth " is not always based on objective facts. Your beliefs may have nothing to do with the Christian notion of Satan, but that doesn't matter. At best, you are not mainstream. I play RPGs, know a lot about cars computers, electronics, and physics. Therefore I am not either and that has earned my the automatic enmity of many. Different = evil. Satanist = different. Q.E.D.
-
I'm surprised that's a question. Prima facie, "Satanism" sounds like "worship of Satan", and Satan is widely held (by every Zoroastrian religion there is) to be evil. Evil usually invokes hate. Now, I don't know exactly what you mean by "the truth of", but I guess you don't consider your belief system to be like that. But to me it seems peculiar that you would pick such an obviously offensive and such an easily misinterpreted name for a religion.

many people today don't even know what Satanism is these days. They here the word Satan and automatically assume it's bad. Despite this, i doubt it would have a positive outlook when people realize it's actually the worship of oneself. Most people would view that as conceded and just plain wrong. What's become so called normal for society these days is to believe in God. That's the majority. Go against the majority and yeah, you're gunna get looked at weird.
