you know i wasn't afraid of clowns untill i saw stephen king's IT. isn't that bazaar? silly too. but, now i'm not phobic or anything, i just don't like them at all. they scare me.
-
Very much so
-
No, I think theyre funny.
-
i hate them
-
No but my sister is I did not think the show IT was that scary
-
Heck yes, I'm afraid of clowns. Probably the worst part of every haunted house I've ever been to. Not only are they creepy, but all I can think about is how they have to paint a smile on their face because a person who works as a clown could never ACTUALLY be happy. Creepos....
-
Not really. Apart from those in Batman Returns, with Jack-in-the-boxes that hide machine guns and stuff.
-
No. I know far to many to be afraid of them.
-
Clowns are essentially mimes, and mimes are stupid. Therefore- Clowns are essentially stupid. Like mimes. Who are stupid.
-
This one YES!!!
-
Absolutely. Never liked them when I was a child. And Stephen King's book brought the phobia back to me as an adult. It's just something about their painted on faces that reeks of evil to me.
-
No.
-
YES! Which sucks, because half of my family are shriners!
-
ya im terrified of them
-
I only like a few clowns, not that I dislike the rest of them. I like the Killer Clowns from Outer Space, the evil clown from Poltergeist, The Joker if you can call him a clown, the Violator from Spawn, and Pennywise from Stephen King's It. I guess you could say I'm twisted like that. Haha. Though admittedly, ICP falls into those I don't like.
-
Nope. I just find them funny.
-
Not at all. I loved watching Kramer and his fear of clowns. He also passed a stone on that day. Although now he's an idiot, Michael Richards was halarious as Kramer.
-
I am. Its because the make up they wear is so dramatic. And also they dont show facial emotions because their face is painted on for them. so they could have a homicidal look on their face but be showing you a big ass red grin.
-
Hell yes! I think that the ones with the happy faces painted on are the ones that freak me out the worst... But then all of the other ones do, too. I have this fear that they are homicidal, but I would not know it to look at them because of the make-up. I also feel that they became clowns to be closer to children--the freaky pedophiles!! And no, "IT" did not cause this phobia.

"To me, clowns aren't funny. In fact, they're kind of scary. I've wondered where this started and I think it goes back to the time I went to the circus, and a clown killed my dad." -- Jack Handey
-
Actually I like clowns and had a chance to meet emmett kelly, a famous clown and had a get talk with him as a child. I even went fishing with him, and no he didn't honk the horn every time he got a fish on the line.
-
2 possible sources come to mind...most commonly, the temperament of the child is "slow-to-warm" (reading on an individual's temperament and reactions to his/her environment forming "personality" will give you the strongest understanding of your child). With the "slow-to-warm", there must be a low-key and safe environment in order for the child to become comfortable and "slowly" trust the unfamiliar person (or situation). Clowns violate this need by being too loud, too close, and too interactive too soon. Gradual desensitization (going from looking at a photo of a clown all the way to shaking hands with one over a period of weeks) is the best solution. Second reason, is generalizing anxiety. A child may have an initial traumatic experience or fear of something. This fear is spread into related objects or related situations. For example, if (horrible but common) a child is sexually molested during a birthday party while others are in the next room having loud fun...the child will associate the party, loudness, and (the clown) with that trauma and will then fear such things as parties, loud noises, and clowns.

-
I like clowns! :D Thin of how much gas you'd save on car-pool if you could fit 20 people into a Mini Cooper!
-
No but my two girls are...check out this clown we saw this weekend...
-
YES. Deathly white faces, usually blood red lips, over enthusiastic shouts of laughter what's there no to be afraid of?
-
Not afraid, no, but I do hold a certain revulsion to them. When I was younger, I met several clowns. Each had a bad 5 o'clock shadow, smelled like alcohol and tobacco, and had poorly applied makeup. That's not to say they were all bad. There was one balloon twisting guy who was quite creative, but he wasn't technically a clown, more of a magician. Anyway, I quite like the ones held in the safety of the stage, doing somersaults and juggling and whatnot, but those that have escaped the confines of the arena, and wander the shopping malls handing out balloons, they get my goat. Sometimes I imagine that big red nose to be a big red target for my big red fist.
-
I'm not afraid of them, but I do hate them. I dont know why...I just always have.
-
Only if they have explosives strapped to themselves or are a member of the John Wayne Gacy fan club.

-
Only the ones that run the country

I've never been afraid of them, but those who wear what is known as the "Grotesque" make-up, can be very intimidating to toddlers. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61nP-dDSKTL._AA280_.jpg +5

Yeah, people like Dick Armey, who was a lobbyist for the pharmaceutical industry and the leader of the parade on Washington on Sept. 12, as president of Freedom Works. I know Molly Ivins is turning in her grave right now because she used to criticize him and others like Tom de Lay, when they were on the Texas legislature and call them a bunch of "clowns".
