I placed a Question today and placed it in a particular category to create more of a statement > Birthdays < But when I checked the input - The category had been changed to something else ... Why? ... Who can do this when I had a strong point to make? :(

Anyone can flag any one else's Q. If someone believes your Q is in the wrong category, he or she can move it to the correct category. Thanks for asking your Q! I did my best to answer it. Answerbag maintains a database of questions with answers category wise and their computers constantly monitor whether the questions posted are categorized properly. Did you put a question mark at the end of the question or some other mark such as a period? A Statement instead of a question can confuse the computers. Then they will use the key word recognition method to select the category. If in their judgment your question or statement fits better in another category the computers change the categories on their own. Please read the rules and you will understand why. I do not know whether I am totally correct. But this is what must be happening as Asnwerbag is very systematic in these things. You can always put in your feedback directly and ascertain for yourself. By the way, I am not the one who downrated your question. It was -5 when I saw it. So I gave the +2 rating I am entitled to and answered your question as best as I could, thats all.

Any member can flag a question as wrong category and suggest a better one. This does not necessarily mean it will be moved, as it takes staff approval to move any question. It is hard to tell which questions are placed in a certain category to make a statement or just because the asker didn't take the time to place it in the proper one. for example Many people who post a question are looking for the best answers they can get. Placing dog issues in to the auto section may not give the asker much in the ways of an answer as to being in the pet>dog category. The reason for the categories are for future members searching through old questions for the answers. Maybe for example the best answer for my dog is in the auto section which I would have never thought to look. If you feel that your question belonged better in the category you placed it in you can contact the staff via feedback and ask them to change it back. But you must understand if it fits better in the new category chances are they will not move it.
