1) Yes, the Bible is usually considered to be a sacred text: http://www.sacred-texts.com/bib/kjv/index.htm 2) "According to the Online Etymology Dictionary, the word bible is from Latin biblia, traced from the same word through Medieval Latin and Late Latin, as used in the phrase biblia sacra ("holy book" - "In the Latin of the Middle Ages, the neuter plural for Biblia (gen. bibliorum) gradually came to be regarded as a feminine singular noun (biblia, gen. bibliae, in which singular form the word has passed into the languages of the Western world."). This stemmed from the Greek term τá½° βιβλία τá½° á¼…για (ta biblia ta hagia), "the holy books", which derived from βιβλίον (biblion), "paper" or "scroll," the ordinary word for "book", which was originally a diminutive of βÏβλος (byblos, "Egyptian papyrus"), possibly so called from the name of the Phoenician port Byblos from whence Egyptian papyrus was exported to Greece." This definition is usually valid inside this religion, but less valid (if any) outside of it. "Durkheim proposed that most central to religion was not deity but the distinction between sacred and profane" "The origin of the word "holy" comes from the 11th Century Old High German hulis and Old English holegn meaning Holly as in Holly Tree, considered a sacred plant to both pre-Christian Celtic and Roman worship. The word hulis originates from an even older proto-Germanic word khuli a shortened derivation of the ancient Gaelic cuilieann both meaning Holly. The distinction of the word holy appeared around the 13th Century with the Old English word hÄlig derived from hÄl meaning health, happiness and wholeness. As “wholeness”, holiness may be taken to indicate a state of religious completeness or perfection." Of course.

Interesting question. The Bible, in and of itself, is not "Holy." But because it carries within it the word of God ( which IS holy ), it is considered holy. Some Christians hold that all living things are holy, since they all were created by God, and that humanity was given special place because God created us to "manage" his creation for him.
