Thanks for the question. The line is drawn when the pursuit of alcohol is it's own end.

An alcoholic no doubt started out as a "hard partier" so it's all a matter of time. When alcohol becomes an important part of your life that's a danger signal. When you find it hard to go without it, that's a sign you might be an alcoholic. When you spend a lot of money on it. When you get abusive towards others. There are many more "symptoms" of being an alcholic, but the worst one is ignoring the fact that you have a problem.

I heard this once, and I thik it sums up the partier's transition into the alcoholic; "I used to have a drink after work, then I started having a drink before work and after work, then I started also having a drink during work, and eventually I started having a drink instead of work." But I think the word alcoholic gets thrown around quite loosely. There's people that like and choose to drink a lot and then there's alcoholics that almost can't function without a drink. There's working alcoholics which seem just fine as long as they are drinking but take them off the alcohol and they get the shakes and stuff.

Just for fun, go to a party with alcohol and not drink any. How easy or difficult was it? Are you able to exercise your ability to choose? If not, I would get some help.
