Telephone, just like I did before email was widely available.

Telephone and letters and faxes. Long distance telephone bills - regular or cell phones would be very costly.

Telephones on local things. Letters and maybe fax machine or ? on long distance. It would really cost alot more and cell phone services would have to really change and be alot more reliable. It would be a mess!

Well, before there were computers there were telephones and more things were sent by mail. Of course an in person visit was the best way of all!
