I study the candidate's positions on issues, look at their voting record, compare them to my philosophies and then decide how I will vote.

I follow no one. I study the facts, examine the issues, open my eyes and look around, make sure I get varied opinions and varied sources of news coverage. In the end, I always hope that there will be a candidate that I really want to get behind and believe in, but I am not above voting for the 'lesser of two evils', if it comes to that. Blindly following the herd and plugging into the tube is a lazy man's way. Research, critical thinking, and facts require a lot more time and dedication. It's not easy, but it's a responsibility that I take quite seriously.

unfortunately, I feel that I am in the minority in that I vote based on candidate's voting record, views, leadership, and expericence.

I really try to study the issues, but sometimes I let my emotions get to me :-)

My dad and I disagree on most everything political, so that family heritage thing is out. My way is I look at an issue, or more whatever, decide my personal point of view, then see which candidate is more like my opinion. Or, basically, I don't see which politician I agree with, I try to see which agrees with me and vote accordingly.
