  • If he was indeed omnipotent, could he not take human form to go through the gargen to make sure all was well? Or since he was omnipotent could he have done this to see how they would act? Or could it be that he already knew what happened and decided to test them like he loves to do. Jesus was credited as being the same person as God, and he was a man. He walked on earth. So why can't god walk in the garden should he choose? Just have faith.
  • I've always seen the Genesis account as metaphor. Maybe just a moral tale? The Bible isn't a science book, I think..
  • they had mushrooms back then too
  • At the time that Genesis was "written" (it was first oral tradition), Yahweh/Jehovah was not perceived or believed to be a omnipresent Spirit. This can also be observed by the passage in which Cain leaves the presence of Yahweh. Such would not be possible if Yahweh were omnipresent.
  • In Genesis 3:8 it says "And they heard the VOICE of the Lord God.." He called out to them.
  • If Adam and Eve were at the garden of Eden they could probably here the noise of the Euphraites and Tigres rivers where they join forming the Shat-al-Arab. Large reed beds often float down and collide where the two river currents meet, maybe thats what they heard on a dark night. Theres the gnarled petrified remmnants of a tree there, known by the locals as the Adam Tree. Its ironic that the garden of Eden is supposed to be where these two great rivers meet in Iraq, and Saddam Hussein has just been hung.
  • It might pay for you to take that story with a pinch of salt, since it also says they had a conversation with a snake.
  • God whistles as He walks... LOL No seriously. Seminary taught me... oh nothing of importance. The three P's when it comes to the bible. Prologue (Applicable to first chapters of nearly all the books, the accounts of generations are Prologue) Prose (that is to say it is written in a poetic fashion self evident in some places, not so self evident in others) Parable: Parable teachings was something that Jesus Did. Usually in the NT we are told "And Jesus taught them in parable saying..." Jesus did not just "invent" the parable, the Sacred Writings up to that time were full of parable. Christ knew this and in this way he taught. God walking through the Garden is imagery, it is a poetic way to convey the Presence of God. "hearing" the sound of God is a poetic way to say that Adam and Eve were aware of God's Presence in the Garden. Spirit is a hard thing to discuss, Note the bible spends a few books attempting to explain those things. In the creation story the importance was not explaining the nature of "spirit" but to set the stage on the Relationship between God and Man.
  • In the bible there are various representations of God. Some scholars went so far to conclude that different spirits are described. In the original hebrew version, different names and attributes are used. The idea of an omnipresent spirit is high philosophy for adult people. The idea of God as a huge father for Adam and Eve is a kind of children tale, or a try to describe the indescribable. How could they "hide from him among the trees of the garden", if God were an omnipresent spirit in this tale? If the translation speaks of "the Lord God", are you not induced to believe that this God look like an "old man with a beard"? But some modern theologist affirm that the christian God has no more reason to be a man as to be a woman.
  • Regardless of your believe God is the supreme power, invisible but much much closer than your thoughts. What you are reading now in Bible is not the same thing as God delivered. When you have time just go through the English Translation of holy Quran; you believe it or NOT it doesn't make any difference. RK
  • I always assumed that was a reference to the pre-Incarnate Christ. Remember, God exists beyond space and time, and so there's no reason He couldn't bring His Yeshua form forward in time to interact with A&E.
