  • well on paper the Seagate with 32 MB cache ought to be slightly faster but it is also slightly more expensive. I expect the performances will probably be virtually identical. More important to me would be reliability. I've had 100% failure rate with Seagate drives recently. 1 TB data is a lot to lose or try to back up If you're really concerned about speed, raid setup with 2 500's might be faster
  • higher cache faster speed heres a web site that you might want to check out before you jump and buy www.buy.com as for brands Maxtor, Seagate are both good but anybody can get a bad one, in general all HD have lifetime warranty's and you should always back your information up just in case, as no brand is infallible.
  • Your only talking $8, go with the seagate, I'm the opposite of n38, I've had more failure with WD and 0 with seagate. If this is of concern or not, if you have to import or mirror data on to the seagate, you can dl diskwizard free from their site and transfer part or all of the data from any older hd that you may have
