  • Sweet oil: mild vegetable oil when used as food; especially olive or edible rape oil. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/sweet+oil The most of us who are parents are well aware of the upset an ear infection can cause when it comes to our babies and children. The earache is an occurrence which sends more parents to the emergency room in the middle of the night than anything else. There are many reason for pain in the ear which include an obstacle of the canal of the ear, which can be any of a number of foreign objects, pressure in the tube of the ear, infections, wax buildup, water in the ear, or swimmer's ear, to name a few. When there is swelling in the tube of the ear, the tube is unable to carry out its task of draining fluid from the ear. This tube is a small tube which connects the ear to the nose. Thus it is not uncommon for those which colds or allergies to also experience earaches. It may be noticed that earaches tend to worsen at night. This is true of any illness, but with earaches the act of lying down causes the pain to worsen. When one is up and about during the day the head is in an upright position and natural draining can occur much easier. Many realize when they are flying or traveling up a mountain that the ears tend to stop up, or build pressure. To relieve this pressure, one can chew gum or swallow. By doing this simple thing the tubes in the ear open enough to allow air to flow to t he middle of the ear relieving the sensation. If you have earaches try chewing some gum. Many people have heard of using "sweet oil" for earaches. If you do not have sweet oil, simply use baby oil. Heat the bottle of baby oil to a warm temperature. Be sure it is lukewarm and not hot. Put a couple of drops in the ear or ears which are hurting. Put a small piece of cotton in the ear, so that the oil will not drain out. For those who have an earache as a result of an ear infection, or swimmers ear, garlic may give relief. Garlic has many health benefits and will help to ease the pain of an earache as well. Place a couple of drops of garlic oil in the ears which are infected. Many claim to have had much success with using garlic oil after a couple of days of use.
