For the Yanks of AB or anyone else : Do you think there is much intrinsic differences between the Democrats and Republicans that amount to any more than a hill of beans to your average tax-paying Joe, like me and probably you?

There is very little difference. They say there is but thats not the case. Both of them are crime families whom have only their own interests in mind.

McCain is a *lot* more likely than Obama to attack Iran. Not saying that he will, but he is more likely to. Is a third war on top of the two you already have "more than a hill of beans"?

In terms of foreign policy, there can be a big difference - eg, the US is largely an international pariah fighting 2 wars. If Gore had won, Afghanistan would be in a lot better shape than it is now. . Domestically, somewhat less. They can cut taxes for political or virtually theological reasons and increase the national debt, fund alternative energy sources, and populate the Supreme Court with like-minded people. But other than that, yeah, it often does seem like more of the same politics as usual.
