Your landlord is the best source for free legal advice. If the two of you don't cover the dead beats end the landlord does not give a crap about your problem, he/she will just evict EVERYONE in the unit for non-payment of rent. If you choose to evict your roommate keep track of all expenses, Rent, Utilities etc. that you share and you will have to go through the same eviction process as the landlord. If there is not much time left on the lease you could inform the landlord that you will be leaving the unit and leave the pos roommate behind. Trying to collect from this pos could proove to be the most difficult aspect of the job, post eviction that is. If you leave before the lease is done, all people who signed the lease are joint and severable liable, meaning they can and will sue all of you and get all of the money out of the one person that they can.
