  • A person could write a book on this topic, so it is hard to answer in a few words. God definitely is a loving God. John 3:16 says, "For God so loved..." But He also does punish. He destroyed Sodom & Gomorrah for their wickedness. Where ever you find God punishing a person or a bunch of people, it is because of their sins. You probably already know that. Does He ever punish the angels? Of course not! That's because they never sin. Sin always brings judgement (punishment) just as breaking the law brings its consequences. If someone runs a stoplight, hits your husband and causes him to lose his leg, would your attitude be: "That's OK. He was probably in such a hurry that he didn't have time to stop." I think not. The law would see to it that he had to compensate your husband for his loss. So it is with God. In order to be fair, He must judge those who break His laws. But for those who keep them, His love just keeps getting stronger and better.
  • Look at the person next to you and love them. Look at the person who has been you enemy, then forgive them. Look at the person who you totally loath and develop the abillity to forgive them and the abillity to love them, then and only then you will learn who and what God is. If you want to be forgiven you must first learn to forgive. If you want to be loved you must first learn to love those who have no other comfort, those who have no one else to love them. We are our brother's keepers. May God's goodness empower you both.
