This doesn't answer your question, but I want to let you know that one day, actually in the blink of an eye, none of this will matter to you. Hang in there.

Paper Doll is right but to add on my advice- Lose the curly hair. It's not the "in" style these days. Try changing your hair; make it look wavy. Also, try asking around for fashion advice. In fact, you can upload a larger photo on an answer and show us how you look and dress. We could give better fashion advice right then.

Unfortunately you can make yourself more popular. I tend to think people are born into the roles they play. I was never a popular one at school and it bothered me, until I found my true love and then everyone at school seemed to melt away. Why do you care what they think? Are they more intelligent than you? (not usually) Society wouldn't listen and neither should you :) Take my advice, stick it out and have FUN!!! I regret not having fun at school because I was too worried people were watching and judging :) Hope I helped

Paper_Doll is right, but for now remain true to yourself and look around a little harder. Most kids your age are looking for the same things that you are, but get so caught up in themselves that they overlook others who are right in front of them. As far as being more active, I have a child who had no interest in team sports and therefore took up surfing - and is now very good at it. You have to find your grooves in this world and when you do, you're going to be a total stud!!

All it takes to be more active is to do more active things. Play some sports and make a commitment to a team. Take an active sport like basketball or soccer, and practise! There is no quick fix scheme to get good at a sport. Being in a team is also a good place to meet new people and make new friends, and as shallow as this sounds, they'll probably like you more if you are good at the sport so practise is important. I would also suggest training as in weight training but I don't know if that’s a good idea for a 13-year-old. Doing something like weight training is good at helping you become stronger which would make sports easier, you'd be better at active things and maybe even a bit more popular (I'm under the impression that most kids are pretty shallow these days)

FOCUS on your studies and class participation. This will tell people who you are withut having to worry about socializing. The best start in any social situation is simple, just catch someones eye and smile. Maybe later add a "Hello" or How you doin'?" Lots of people are starved for attention, give them a bit of yours, and wait for it to pay dividends.

I am in 8th grade, too, and I used to be really unpopular because I am smart. I just stuck it out and eventually found some new more popular friends. They just took me for who I was, and without even knowing it I became more popular. Now I have a lot of friends even though I am a tomboy and don't wear makeup.
