  • no, but why feel awful all day? Aspirin will lower your fever and make you feel much better..... Sure the fever is supposed to kill the germs, but again, why feel sick all day if you dont have to?
  • Medicine can kill whatever is causing you to be sick, or at the least, make you more comfortable (even if it prolongs your sickness).
  • Unless you have a medical degree hanging on the wall, yes, I'd say it's flawed. Symptoms aren't helping you get rid of anything. They're alerting you that there's something wrong.
  • If you have a bacterial infection and were prescribed medicine you need to finish the regime or the bacteria who were not killed off by what you did take will be resistant to the medicine and possibly make you sicker. This is one of the top reasons (other than doctors who prescribe antibiotics for viral infections) that "super bugs" are appearing and causing people to be sicker than the original strain would have caused. However, if you are speaking about over the counter medications, you don't *need* to take them but if your symptoms are preventing you from sleeping, getting rest in general, or staying hydrated/nourished then I think you should consider taking something to help relieve it. Rest and hydration are key to getting better.
  • only to you
  • medicine doesnt "cure" the symptoms, it alleviates, reduces, or blocks them. Some people need to take medicines or their illness would get worse. Some of these illnesses could be life-threatening without medication. If the medicine alleviates or prevents the illness, how can it exacerbate the situation? This is a contradiction of logic. I can see part of your reasoning, but it depends a lot on what the illness is and how bad the symtoms are. Some people load themselves up on medicines when they have a cold, and some people just get through it. Some people won't take pain pills until absolutely necessary and some grab them whenever they can. If a person has a serious illness though, they surely will not exacerbate the situation by taking their medicine!
  • So long as it is nothing more than the common cold, then you probably don't NEED to take medicine. Although there is something to be said about taking preventative medicines like Airbourne the second you feel an illness coming on. You may want to take something to help you sleep, because rest is really the only thing you can do for a cold.
  • If it's over-the-counter stuff you're talking about, go a head and stop taking them unless your symptoms are causing you to lose sleep or to have unbearable discomfort. If it's prescribed antibiotics, take them! Follow directions! Finish the bottle (unless the prescription says otherwise)! Stop the proliferation of drug-resistant strains!
