I think it was real, but I would not be surprised if he had been coached not to worry about it if he comes close to choking up. I am a really strong Democrat. And I admit that I would find it much easier to think that a Republican was faking emotion than a Democrat. Does that answer your question?

I am an registered independent. I think he was crying in happiness because that was the easiest debate hes ever had in his life.
-
I am an independent and I thought it felt rather phony, and if it wasn't...what was he doing choking up in a debate?
-
I think it was real, I'm a Republican.

He was talking about his son that he lost. I think it was real.

No one can deny the emotions that might arise when talking of dealing with the loss of a loved one. But as someone who has to be strong for a country I think Biden could have or should have held back his emotions. If he gets teary eyed every time that gets mentioned will he be strong enough to make tough decisions that might cost thousands their lives? IT may not have been to get a little sympathy vote or 2, but it worked on a lot of people as we can see on this site. Maybe it will help him to show some vulnerability and humanity, maybe it will hurt him..I dunno. As far as my political stance I am a Constitutionalist and don't support Palin or Biden.

He was talking as a father who'd suffered loss. I thought that was completely real. I happen to be a Democrat. I don't think it would matter what party you belong to, if you'd been through that as a father, you'd probably have the same reaction.

It was probably real. I'm conservative.
-
Genuine yet tactful. Independent leaning toward Obama/Biden.

1)Yes, for I know it was real. It was one of his best moments. He made a personal connection, in my opinion with America, like Palin did practically throughout the debate. 2) Republican. Ps. I supported McCain even before his Palin pick. :)

Real. Republican.

The man lost his wife and was talking about his child who was struggling to survive. He did his best to hold it back. He's known to be a guy who wears his heart on his sleeve. oh... independent for Obama
-
I think it was real... he was a single dad, and lost his wife and daughter, raised his two sons by himself for five years until he remarried. And he's now facing the prospect of sending his son into harm's way in Iraq. He's worried, as any father would be.
-
I think it was real. It's damn near impossible not to have that effect you. I think it showed his human side. I'm a centrist, and am unenrolled until shortly before the election when I enroll as a democrat or republican. Otherwise, I can't vote for either major party.
-
I thought it was real. He looked like he was holding back a tear and maybe had a memory flash in his head. It gave me goosebumps to feel that sadness through my tv. I'm a independent.
-
His physiological response is of no concern. He held his own in this debate. His problem, and Obama's, is that they should have swept the floor with Palin, and they didn't. The whole reason Biden was chosen was to win this debate, and he did not deliver. God forbid Obama should have to debate Palin, because Obama would lose. The Obama/Biden ticket is a joke which should go down one of two ways: 1)The biggest mistake in the last 50 years. or 2) The loudest footnote in American history. For what it is worth... JD...

1] He was emotionally authentic in every sense of the word. 2] I am an Independent and will vote Libertarian.
