Why do you even take notice of what those other people are doing? They do NOT matter, at all. . How do you react when he screams? Do you hug him? Do you smile? Do you shush him? Do you ignore him? . You're this baby's mother. His very life depends on you. Half those other people wouldn't even hold a door open for you. Screw'em. .

This is almost the exact question I was about to ask. Except my 18 month old is a foster child I have only had for 2 months. The doctor says there is nothing wrong with him except he has never been parented. That doesn't stop the gutteral screaming at a drop of a pin, the kind where there any type of communication is not able to happen. Today, I put him down for his nap and he screamed... I went in every few minutes to tell him it is nap time and screaming is unexceptable... but after an hour of this I needed to just stay away from him and after another hour he suddenly stopped screaming and called out Mommy... he used his words, so I ran in and he was beaming from ear to ear with no signs of distress. I hugged him and brought him out of his crib. I don't know really what happened, did he realize screaming wasn't "working" and tried something new? I do not know. This was the first time he ever really "stopped" screaming. And he did not nap. Did I do the "right" thing? What do I do next time? I spent the time he was screaming the second hour online researching screaming child and came up with a few things. 1.) they do it because it works for them 2.) they need to be checked out for autisum. I still am not any closer to any answers.
