Should public schools only teach the basics like math and language arts? Should they not be allowed to teach history, politics and science

Politics should not be taught at all [nearly all teachers are indoctrinated Leftist or fems - most of which have been ruining the world, its economies and the family anyway].
History needs to be taught for its facts - not for its Criticisms re our Forebears or their (interpreted) actions.
And, in science, the lie that is evolution needs complete elimination from the course: Evolutionary "research" is costing the world a (Useless) MINT - Billions in cash just thrown into the furnace virtually.
No wonder the economies of the world are now failing - the pure 'waste' on the Enormous amounts of Nonsense that is out there.
Get rid of the above and teach the kids something about their very Maker and you might start with an honest education for the kids.

After the tales I have heard of theistic researchers being denied grants simply because of their beliefs, I would Never opt to have evolutionists lose out on their research.

If the theory is right then let them have all the money they need, we Want to have the truth. If the theory is wrong, then don't give evolutionists and excuse to say that they did not have the best opportunity possible to research it.

As for it being a pure 'waste'? I'm sure more gets used for military expenses than research in your country. It seems to be the way things always go in academia.
