Why did we create religion?

It was created earlier with an intent to teach people about God,later it was used by people to rule over others,then it was used to preach false beliefs,then it was used to spread fear in the minds of people,now it is used to segregate people.Religion has evolved into a tool for domination instead of making it spread the words of wisdom,devotion and love.
