I would also include in this the extended predation of the Barbary pirates by which they extorted money from all other nations that sought to sail in the Mediterranean Sea.

Since when is it "attacking" to take back what was stolen from you? Did we "attack" Japan and Nazi Germany?

Roger Kovaciny, if you could explain which attacks you are refering to? Although if I may take a guess you are probably refering to the crusades. It is a great simplication to say that Muslims took the Middle East from the Christians, for example, if Islam and Christianity existed peacefully for a time and Christians started the violence, or forced the Muslims into conflict that changes things a lot, was the Middle East truely Christian or were they just occupying areas of tribal and Jewish law? Although there was brutality and eventual Islamification of the Middle East, it's open to interpretation exaclty who was to blame.
