Jesus instructed "This, then, is how you should pray: " 'Our Father in heaven...' " Since that is what Jesus taught, I would take that as the primary idea in prayer.

At one point (John 14) Jesus did say "You may ask me for anything" which seems to validate prayers directed to Jesus.

    So...
prayer to the Father - pretty much commanded.
prayer to Jesus - apparently OK
prayer to anyone else? Not in the Bible... except in the dictionary sense of "pray: to make a request in a humble manner." (M-W.com) You can make humble requests of anyone you want - even people who have died... I suppose...

    • Be careful you posted... "prayer to anyone else? Not in the Bible..."

Are you willing to bet your soul on that belief? I hope not.

    • What belief is that? I state that the Bible nowhere commands or recommends prayer to anyone but Jesus or the Father. Is my statement in error? If so, simply cite the verses that contradict my assertion. My belief is not relevant to the question.

I see your lengthy answer... it seems to be based on opinion and extrapolation. Concepts like "we are one family" and "we are united" and others you draw from the verses you mention do not demonstrate biblical endorsement of prayers to anyone but God.

I agree with your assertion that all Christians are saints -- so if you really mean it is OK to ask other Christians to pray with and for you, I certainly agree with that, but I suspect that was not the intent of the question.

    • I think we have the same beliefs but not sure I understand you.
