It is a common myth that a womens' feet "grow" during pregnancy. It is virtually unheard of that one's skeleton grows after the age of 20-22. What actually happens is that womens' tendons and connective tissues relax during pregnancy. This is to allow the baby to pass through the cervix at birth. In effect, women become "double jointed" during pregnancy, which causes the foot to splay out more than before pregnancy, requiring a larger shoe size (pregnant women become "flat footed"), and some women never return to their normal tendon tensions, while others do.

The strange thing with my mom is that not only did her feet grow from size 9 to size 11, she was an 11AAA (slim) and had a terrible time finding shoes because 11's come in wide most of the time.
