Right...kinda like how I am free to commit murder. It is really interesting to hear a mormon talk about freedom...it betrays the religions early cult-roots. Anyway, the Word of Wisdom states that barley is to be used for the making of mild drinks, so I have no idea why later prophets decided that god changed his mind later and said "no beer." Actually I DO know why. Mormonism is an infomercial. EVERYTHING that they do is an attempt to promote an image of success. Missionaries are to be clean cut, no tattoos no piercings no radical hairdos, suit and tie, leather scripture set, etc. Church meetings are testimonials, just like in infomercials, where people stand up and talk about how well the product is working for them. And people on the outside WANT THAT SUCCESS. People want to be a part of something grand. So they join. And they pay money, because if you don't pay tithing you can't go to the temple, and you can't get to the top heaven unless you've done the temple. Pyramid scheme

Wow. I searched the internet because i heard a funny Mormon joke on The Office and i was trying to find where they got the material from. I wasn't prepared to be blindsided by this. Answerbag owes you a new member. Do you enjoy spreading stuff about other religions? And i can tell you've never been to an actual sacrament, or you would know that testimony meetings are not the regular meetings. I'm not going to attack you or what you said. But I am going to say that while some people seem to enjoy finding new ways to hate the Mormon church, that church does nothing but teach teir understanding of Christ. And tithes are required by the bible--read it. And the top two areas that money is spent on is humanitarian causes and far behind is education. Sheesh, stop wasting your time hating people you don't even know.

HA HA HA HA HA...I was LDS for 15 years. "And i can tell you've never been to an actual sacrament, or you would know that testimony meetings are not the regular meetings" Well, I DIDN'T actually say that, DID I. Even the regular meetings are testimonials, they just have SCHEDULED speakers instead of impromptu speakers. I stand by my statement, emphatically.
.
The Mormon church does MUCH MORE than just teach its understanding. It comes to my doorstep, it encourages voting blocs, and it suckers people out of their money. And as far as your claim that tithing is spent on humanitarian efforts, well, you don't know that because the church doesn't publish that information and they haven't for DECADES. You have assumed that, wrongly. In 1995, Hinckley told Time magazine that 70% of tithing goes to the building and maintaining of church buildings and to fund LOCAL church activities, some is spent on charity, and that the rest is put away "for a rainy day."

"Anyway, the Word of Wisdom states that barley is to be used for the making of mild drinks,"
Some people think this was a referance to beer, but we later latter-day saints know that it's talking about Pero and Postum very good for you. ;^)
