If there is one thing you can count on in America it's that there are no norms, values, beliefs, habits, attitudes, or standards. They will vary greatly from one end of the country to the next and from one culture to the next. Most people will retain their belief systems when they come here and will naturally congregate with like minded people. That makes it possible to be both American and what ever else you might be. For me, I am American, Cajun, and Pentecostal. My beliefs, values, habits...are formed by these three things the most.

    • I thought it was still a good question. If you want more specific info then ask something else; otherwise it's fine the way it is. : )

    • Actually every single country in the world has their own set of norms, values, beliefs, habits, attitudes, and standards. Just because a country is congregated with different religions, ethnic backgrounds, or beliefs, doesn't mean that they do not have their own set of norms. Granted everyone follows their own beliefs with in the country but we still have norms and values, as does every single country in the world.

    • Nah, see the second most popular answer. This one is incorrect, for example, part of American culture is a need to assert that Americans don't believe in social norms...while speaking English.
As you point toward later, though, there is some diversity, but that does not make "norms" nonexistent. In fact, mostly, diversity is noted only in contrast to a perceived or assumed norm and the norm itself is invisiblized as "right" or a baseline for ALL behavior. But that's normal in every culture, just Americans get defensive when you notice it.
