What do you think about people who get dogs and then leave them in cages/carriers for 12 hours a day? Should they be charged with abuse?

Unfortunately, there are no guidelines for people who want to own a pet. I see way too many questions here from people who have no business owning another living thing. I just finished answering a question about a dog who pees uncontrollably and pees when she walks.
Yes. That is abuse and it should be reported. Those animals didn't just show up with their bags at the front door looking for a room and board.
For some unknowable reason, they believe that animals don't feel pain, loneliness, hunger and the need to relieve themselves.
This is a subject that gets my burners turned up to high, as you can tell.
So, briefly, report them and fine them and for repeat offenders, no more pets encluding gold fish and jail them.

    • I had a neighbor that didn't work and just went out to have fun all day and would leave her dog in a small crate. She said the dog would scratch the furniture if she left it loose. I know someone who drives a semi 6 days a week and they have 6 animals on the inside. (5 dogs) Those animals get to go out one day a week. It ANGERS me so much that they treat their pets that way. I see several questions on here that make me think "that poor dog/cat". TY (didn't mean to vent)

    • The punishment is NEVER harsh enough IMO.

    • No need to apologize.
It reminds me of a woman that lives by my best friend. We watched all day as this poor little dog, who was locked in a bathroom for 12-15 hours every day, destroyed the window curtains, blinds and screen and struggle to get out of a partly opened window so it could relieve itself, not wanting to soil the place where it had to stay. Like two teenagers, we stood and cheered when the dog finally jumped out of the window and ran. The damage was considerable and she shortly gave the poor thing away. If she gets another, I will report her.
