    A person doesn't do anything inappropriate. They do not lie, cheat or swear. Nothing that is against the law, socially or morally.

    • That was a poor answer, and a subjective one too. I'm not strait-laced but I seldom do anything inappropriate either. The phrase is actually a misspelling of strait-laced ("strait" as in narrow). It originates from the wearing of tight (strait) corsetry, which limits one's movement. It is used to mean prudish, rigidly conformist.
