Help answer this question below.

If you tell your best friend you love them and they remain silent what does the silence mean? I have gone both ways on the issue of reciprocation. After I told him he asked me how long I knew and what I expected from him.

    I'm assuming you're female and your best friend is a male. In that case I have to agree with gtk. He doesn't feel the same way about you, not that your not loveable. I suspect he felt very uncomfortable.
