When a convict is to executed by lethal injection, why do they bother to sterilize the needles?

    If it wasn't sterilized, there could be the possibility of someone interpreting it as cruel and unusual punishment, believe it or not. Also, it is a good idea, because the people administering the shot should probably take those precautions so that they are safe, in case anything bad should happen.
