Pride.
Muslims in general, and Arabs in particular, simply cannot accept the notion that anyone can kick their butts. After all, "Allah" is supposed to protect Her "True Believers" from the infidel.
And partially because one of the Muslim holy sites is the Dome of the Rock, wherein Mohammed claims to have gone to Heaven on the back of a winged horse.
