As long as you aren't stealing, I wouldn't worry about it.
I know it's annoying, it happens to me all the time too. Apparently I give off some sort of shoplifter vibe, because whenever I shop alone, I get followed. I've never shoplifted a thing in my life.
I just try to ignore it, and if they get really close to me I look up and say 'hi' to them and smile. They give me funny looks.
If you really think that the observation is uncalled for, or overwhelming, or if they take it too far, you can ask to speak with the management. Explain that you feel uncomfortable shopping in their store because you get followed like you are a criminal. Ask what you did to get their attention, or if they follow everyone that way. Don't get upset, or threaten anything, because then you seem suspicious... I've worked retail, and lots of shoplifters throw fits about being followed. So don't throw a fit... be respectful, but explain that you won't be shopping there anymore if their surveillance activities continue in the same fashion.

You're reading Why does security follow me at Home Depot like I'm gonna steal something? Isn't there something I can do about it, it happens all the time......

Great answer about not throwing a fit. That always puts up theif flags, IMO. Just act like a responsible adult and they will start treating you like a responsible adult.

Jen, you obviously know my pain here, but I'm fed up with letting them treat me this way...I want results.

You can write a letter to the company (store manager, district manager, regional manager, etc) explaining the situation... but details would be helpful in this case. Time and dates of visits, location of the store visited, what departments you shopped in, what items you looked at, and a description of how you were "monitored".... even explain that it only happens at their store, and nowhere else (if that's the case). If it's the same security/loss prevention guy following you each time, state that.
