Question

Help answer this question below.

A Brit once told me it is impossible for him to speak in an American accent, whereas I can easily reproduce a British accent (though I may sound like a “gay toff” when I do.) Why does this accent imitating only work one way?

You probably think that you sound 'British' but I can guarantee that you don't. For one thing, there is actually no such thing as a British accent, as Britain includes several different countries, each with their own distinctive accents.

    • Forget countries. You can get different accents within one city.
