If you mean a la Star Trek, actually move an existent thing by some sort of wave or particle transmission like radio or television, nobody knows. The odds are that it will never happen because of inherent physics limitations. However, it is possible to, in effect, fax a real object, that is, cause a duplicate three-dimensional object to be recreated at a distant site as the result of a pure data transmission. However, what gets created at the receiving end is not a duplicate of the material, only the shape. If I remember correctly, the receiving box lays down successive layers of something like a very fine sand, selected portions of which are caused to harden by some sort of light or static discharge in accordance with data received from the sending box, which is scanning the original in successive layers and converting to digital info. Lay down enough layers and shake off the excess and you've built up an object. (A copier or printer actually does the same thing with toner, but in only one thin layer.) This is an actual commercial process, in use now -- saw it on some television documentary about modern manufacturing methods. They use it for "transmitting" things like prototypes of small parts, samples of objects, etc. It's not a real "beam me up" deal, but it is a little eerie to see working. Apparently the recieved object is highly detailed, depending only on the fineness of the "sand" -- you can go ahead and manufacture more objects from it. Don't know how big the object can be. Maybe someone who's seen one could add a better description. (It'll be an interesting wrinkle for the chat-sex folks once the prices come down . . . .)
