Why do men rent their tuxedos and women purchase their wedding dresses when they get married?

If you think about it, how often do men wear tuxedos, other than the Prom and
their wedding day? Yet, women will hand down their wedding dress to their
sister or daughter or a very close friend. I only wore a tuxedo once in my
entire life....my wedding day. My wife's wedding dress was originally her
sisters and will most likely be used again by another family member.
