Is a dwarven M-16 as much of an improvement over a regular one as a dwarven battleaxe used to be over a regular one?

What is the difference between an AK-47/a rifle/a gun? I guess the AK-47 can kill more people faster, right? Do you like 'em?

The Marines are mostly sticking with the M16...
by Amorphous Blob on September 13th, 2008
why is that? whats so great about the m16?
by kuyakev on September 14th, 2008
It has developed into a good rifle, and the longer barrel means better accuracy, which the Marines have always emphasized.
by Amorphous Blob on September 14th, 2008
true, but the m4 is being adopted because of its small profile due to its shrortened barrel. in regards to stopping power, both rifles still fire the standard 5.56mm rounds.

Doesn't the shorter barrel make it less powerful because of the less time the expanding gasses have to act on the slug?
by Amorphous Blob on September 15th, 2008
they made a shorter barrel so that the gun wouldnt get in the way or get caught..ie. rappelling off a helicopter. but you are right about the expanding gases. overall, i think the stopping power are somewhat similar. i think that accuracy is the only thing that changed. scientifically, the m16 should be the most accurate when compared to the shortened barrel m4. longer barrel also means longer range.

The adopt M4 for urban warfare. The marines still favor M16 for regular deployments.

The range may be affected because of the shorter barrel but most soldiers don't shot at anything over 200 meters anyway. The chace of hitting the intended target is highly diminished after that range unless the enemy is standing very still for an extended period of time.
