When I was helping out at a local primary school, I saw quite a lot of bullying. It seemed to be that the bully didn't care WHO he hit, he hit several people before concentrating on one or two. The later seemed to be targeted because they cowered or didn't respond. Anyone who responded loudly or confidently was left alone. I think the best defence you can give your son is build his self-confidence, teach him how to response confidently and if he can, with a bit of witty feedback. Bullies and victims aren't as far apart in personality as you might think, both have trouble relating to people but their way of handling it is different. If you ignore the bulying or advise him to hide it, the problem of dealing with it can remain for life, because there's bullying of one sort or another in all stages of life, including at workplaces and in marriages.

    • Agreed --- But would like to add:
If the children are young, they NEED adult intervention. Little ones do not know how to cope with this.
