Babies start to make sounds other than, crying, at around two months. At around 6 months, they start making two syllable sounds, and start to mimic sounds at 7 months. By the twelth month, babies begin to say "mama" and "dada" and mimic words. By 15-18 months, they should say several single words, and by their second birthday will begin using simple phrases.

Remember, of course, these are only guidlines. Every baby is different. Some children will reach certain milestones, like walking, sitting up, etc.. faster, while reaching other milestones (like talking) later than average.

    • My son is 2 days old and is already holding down a steady job and is married with 2 kids of his own! He blew right by the whole talking thing.
