You're reading People tell me that in the course of a conversation, I stop, swallow hard, and then talk about something totally unrelated. I have no memory of doing this. What could be wrong?

do not pass "go" - head straight to your general practice physician tomorrow - as you explain it, it doesn't sound like it's something that's happened suddenly or is imminently dangerous - if so, go to the ER. tell your GP what's going on, when it occurs most often, least often, where and with whom and what you ate before it and what you ate when not, medications and beverages and nutritional supplements, age, parental / aunt / uncle / grandparent / sibling risk factors and health ... i won't speculate here, but, i do believe that, as you describe it, it ought to be examined.

you've heard that old line, "armed with a hammer, every problem looks like a nail". well, if you go to a psychologist, they'll diagnose a mental disorder. if you go to a neurologist, they'll diagnose a neurological disorder. same with SLPs ... start with the generalist, in my opinion, armed with lots of sheets of paper with blocks that summarize everything you do and when this happens.
