just the tatics and strategy of modern soilders would dumbfound them. just send a few spec. forces back to do training much like in vietnam and use the men of that time with todays thinkng. not to mention that the men (or ladies) going back in time, would alread know what the enemy had planned. (blitzkrieg- lightning warfare- the concept of striking hard and fast, overwhelming the opposition, uh yes!) and no there is a vast difference in todays Spec. Forces and those of WW2. for instance 90% of the kills in WW2 where done by 10% of the soilders, where as in Vietnam it was more proportionate. the difference was training. in WW2 they used bulls-eye targets while in Vietnam they used Silloettes. the advantage is that using silloettes are a form of mental conditioning. there are many other examples but they are not directly related to the question. peace out!

    • The German special forces of 1939 were every bit as good as today's. This answer is ridiculous. Ever heard of "blitzkrieg"?

    • German blitzkrieg wouldn't work. Modern weapons would have decimated WW2 era forces.

    • Tactics and strategy have not changed by and large, the hardware has.

    • The hardware allows for different tactics, blitzkrieg would be ineffective w/out air superiority, night vision, wow, no chance

    • Special forces are NOT a fighting force but are an insurgency force. If we adhere to the strict interpretation of the question in 1939, they would be of little use to stop a blitz.

    • first we would have to consider the size of Hitler's armed forces at that date and time. could we take on his navel forces? I say yes but,how do we supply them, ? could we bring the supply depots with us through the time warp? is it possible? I believe that we couldn't resupply them, we couldn't get the technology to the 1939 era people in time,or would they be willing to embrace the technology We must consider the soviet faction of that time, true communist to the hilt, they would want our modern technology and do anything to get, even kill our advisor's to keep it hidden and to further their own agenda. They would want our nuclear weapons and be willing to use it on anyone, anywhere even for their own agenda! Then there is his army, very discipline ,but many in uniform, a lot of conscripts from the country's they taken over.could we defeat such a large army? I fear no. we would have to probably resort to chemical weapons in such an wide area it couldn't be used for home or agriculture uses for some time.
