Help answer this question below.

Is there a manufacturer who makes quiet hairdryers? I don't mean the ones where you put a cap on your head - I mean hand-held ones - does anyone make quiet ones?

    Yes. A Google search of "quiet hair dryer" finds

    Conair 147sq 1875 Watt Ultra Quiet Hair Dryer

    If you have a hairdryer that positively screams in your ear (I had one that required earplugs to use) it is most likely defective. Also, if you read the fine print to avoid ear damage you're supposed to hold hairdryers 12 inches from your head. Right! Save your ears and instead by the Ultra Quiet Conair. I did, and I really like it.
