You're reading POLL: Should LESBIAN INCEST RELATIONSHIPS (not just sex but REAL LOVE between mothers and daughters, sisters, aunts and nieces, cousins, even groups of ANY female relatives) be LEGAL? I believe so. State your answers, beliefs, and why you believe so!

Downrated for a poll... did you read the answer or did you just read the first line?

Jerv - Raising kids so they grow up and want to be sexual with parents doesn't seem very healthy. The question here is about legality and I don't know of any law enforcement ever brought against a loving/sexual adult incestuous relationship. Do you?
Must we also pass a law that grants me the right to fart while eating chocolate?
Your response is very clear and well written and I am discouraged that the question has been rated a "-" score. I think people don't like the content even though the question is legit.

That illustrates the biggest flaw in the AB point system. The points generally seem to be awarded not to the most useful, well-written answers but to those that agree with people's gut reactions. I am surprised that kyliee18's answer only got 4 points so far!

A parent doesn't have to "raise" the kid towards the goal of the child being attracted to the parent in order for the child to develop those feelings. A lot of people have attractions to their parents. Where do you think the oedipus complex came from
by normlMike on May 6th, 2009
Don't forget the female equivalent; the Electra Complex ;)
.
Of course, that involves science so many people are oblivious to it.

You call Freud science?
The Oedipus and Electra Complex are two basic observations of children(daddy's girls and momma's boys) blown WAY out of proportion. I mean, you are going to follow the psychologist who says we stop developing after puberty?
Also, sociology teaches us that the whole point of crime is to dictate moral boundaries. If it's not a crime, it's legal. Therefore, in some sociological theories, if there are no crimes, and everything is legal, we have no moral boundaries.
Ere go, it is only natural to legislate morality. I'm not a prude by any rights, and I certainly don't feel that we have to outlaw EVERYTHING, but morality is going to be legislated, and it isn't necessarily wrong.
We've legislated behavior between two consenting adults since we learned how to legislate.

True, as far as you go.
However, there are some things that >98% of people believe are bad like murder, and then there are things that we don't have such widespread agreement on, like abortion.
I think what it boils down to is where to draw the line.
.
Then again, we like to legislate around these parts; laws regarding EVERYTHING!

I really can't understand why incest between consenting adults is illegal as long as they don't have children and for that it would just be for close members of the family
by normlMike on June 10th, 2009
The thing I find odd there is that it has been repeatedly proven that the odds of birth defects for children born of the union of first cousins is not appreciably higher than for many other factors. It's no riskier than between unrelated parents if the mother is >35, if either parent smokes, or has a family history of heart disease, or obesity, or... basically, ANYTHING.
In other words, even reproduction isn't an issue unless it's something that continues for many generations in a row.
.
Then again, scientific fact has NOTHING to do with ANY issue where religion or morality comes into play, even tangentially. Emotions overrule intelligence EVERY time.

cousins is fine I was thinking more along the lines of mother/son father/daughter brother/sister not having kids
by normlMike on June 11th, 2009
Yeah, I think pretty much everyone agrees that that is TOO closely related for any good to come of it.
