Why do comments disappear off answers, then when I add a new one they all come back on again as if by magic? How does that work?

This is an oldie I was brought back to. Back then, I rated people but hadn't started commenting on the ALL the answers, yet.

I also found that I haven't come back and uprated everyone to the full +6. (I think I could only give +3, back then.)
