Help answer this question below.

Is it normal to count the amount of letters in a word or phrase? In turn, knowing how many are in a certain word instantly? If it's not normal, where can I find out what it is?

    It's a bit of OCD, although it doesn't sound like you would meet the criteria for a diagnosis...so don't worry.

    It's funny because my husband does this SAME thing, I think it's odd but there's no harm in it. He also tries to see if he can get out his sentences in an even number of syllables.

    • I sometimes group the letters. Letters that come above the halfway mark when writing (lkhtf) and below the halfway mark (gyqp). I might separate the i and the dot on the i and I'll do it over and over until it is all perfectly organized on my fingers. I usually also go for even numbers. if not then i rearrange and separate parts of the letter to make it even. Thanks for your answer!

    • Yeah I always try to make sure the sum isn't prime by gradually inventing rules for some letters to take values of more than one and counting spaces, apostophes etc., how strange we are but there you go glad to see I'm not alone and life's certainly got plenty of surprises, there must be more than this
