    it should not be legal
My brother had a roommate who said "As long as it makes them happy, right?"
My brother said "I shoot you cause it makes me happy, is that right?"

    • This is a very shallow way of looking at life, my friend. You're comparing murder and love? I hope someday you will experience what love is and realize that it doesn't matter who the recipient is, then you may understand that love is love.

    • maybe...yeah...i don't see what is so bad about it...if they love each other whenever, but...it is a 49% to 51% thing for me

    • Just to note, I didn't rate you down. However, I think people would be justified in doing so because of your stated equivalence of love between two people and murder.

    • yeah...i thank you for that...but he was just getting the point across that just because something makes someone happy doesn't make it right.

    • I understand that. But, I think it's important to bear in mind that the what's really making someone who is gay happy, is that they have come to accept that fact. So many people live their lives both in fear and shame of what they have no control over. No one chooses to be gay anymore than anyone chooses to be straight. What one CAN choose, however, is to live openly and freely and not allow others to condemn you for something they do not or will not understand. That is the only thing about being gay that really makes one happy. But again, thank you for your thoughtfulness with this discussion.

    • I, also, am going to refrain from rating this down. I think the point that making someone happy isn't justification for behavior is a valid one. I think that we should also remember that it is the effect an act has on others' rights and liberties (including the right to life) that makes an action unethical and illegal. We also should also bear in mind that simply because something has always been prevalent in history doesn't justify continuing it.

    • YES, anon, indeed there are many people in the world who feel gay marriage hurts them in no way, and leave people to live their OWN life...now all you do is make jokes about people when you have clearly not been able to intelligently defend your stance, I suppose it's all you have left though, so give me your best shot

    • Is shooting someone consensual? We can only do the things that make us happy if we do not harm the other person. There are limits to our freedom- others must not suffer because we want to do something that makes us happy. That's why drink driving is a problem. Drink drivers may be happy on the road, but the chance is much increased that someone gets killed or hurt. A homosexual marriage hardly harms the other person because it is consensual- they both want it and love each other. Do you see the difference?

    • Those who are against gay marriage cannot use anything other than their own personal opinions and the preferred edition of a particular text to justify their opposition to gay marriage. Further more, I have only ever seen one (1; single; solitary) person here who could both make a religious argument AND consistently use sound logic and actual facts to arrive at his conclusion. While I still agree that this person has the right to make this spurious statement, I feel that anyone who cannot see the logical flaws in that statement should keep their trap shut to avoid embarrassing themselves! I would make ME happy to shoot a couple of people here. One for being stupid, and one for calling that stupidity "balanced". Well, I supopse it is balance if you consider that most of the pro-gay statements here are from intelligent people....

    • Phew, I'm glad not to be in your line of fire, jervinator ;) You are right about that most anti-gay statements are not very logic. Or perhaps, if they are, I have never heard them. I am very curious what the 'sound logic' of that anti-gay person would have been!

      Engeltje

by Engeltje on April 1st, 2007

    • Actually, I only said that they were religious. As for their stance on homosexuality, I believe that if they had a strong opinion on this topic they would have already weighed in and both their religious stance and their intelligence would be readily apparent, if not glaringly obvious. Hell, he's good enough to sometimes almost convince me!
